30+ | Sock Puppets

Instructions

Spark the imagination with simple sock puppets. Grab two pairs of clean socks, one for you and one for your child. No need to decorate the socks; they can transform into characters using your imagination. Put a sock on each hand and make up a story. You can begin the tale and then your child can take over. Continue taking turns, or if your child is an active story-teller, let them steal the show.

The Science

By putting on a sock puppet show with your child, you are helping your child create stories and link experiences together. Not only is this a challenging cognitive task — your child is strengthening their working memory, attention, and information processing — but it is also a social exercise which helps your child understand the natural flow of human experiences.
