The diaper debate has always been binary: cloth vs. disposable. Families weigh a number of factors as they decide. More than 90% choose disposable diapers.
But life isn’t binary. You can care about health, safety, and sustainability while also wanting convenience. As your baby grows, habits and routines can evolve to better fit your baby’s needs and your values as a parent.
And by combo diapering with HealthyBaby diapers you can have it all—at your discretion.
What is combo diapering?
Combo diapering is a way to diaper more sustainably by using both disposable and cloth diapers in a way that makes sense for your family.
By combo diapering with HealthyBaby, you’ll know that both of your diapers are the cleanest, safest option of their kind.
3 combo diapering strategies
Incorporating even one cloth diaper change a day has a positive impact on your baby’s health and the environment. Try experimenting with combo diapering in a few different ways.
1. Use cloth diapers at home...
And disposable diapers when out and about.
2. Use cloth diapers during the day...
And disposable diapers at night.
3. Start baby out with disposable diapers...
And transition to cloth diapers as they get older and require fewer diaper changes.
3 pro-tips for combo diapering
The HealthyBaby team has changed a lot of diapers—and diaper routines. Here’s our best advice for going combo.
1. Start once a day
The best way to build a new routine is to start small. Research shows that the average baby goes through 6-10 diapers a day. Try using a cloth diaper once a day after a poop, so the cloth diaper change is less likely to be messy. (Though we can’t promise anything!)
2. Make a diaper washing schedule
In addition to figuring out the best times and scenarios for cloth diaper use, you’ll also want to establish a diaper washing routine that works for your family’s schedule. We recommend using a waterproof wet bag to store soiled cloth diapers and washing them every 2-3 days to prevent staining and household odors.
3. Use protection liners during naps and overnight
For longer periods of cloth diaper use, Our Overnight Protection Liner is a gamechanger. It adds a soft layer of absorption and catch solids, reducing mess and simplifying the washing process.
